Moving FAQ

Straight answers on our credentials, pricing, crew, storage, and military PCS moves

Still have a question?

A few quick details are all it takes — what comes back is one flat rate in writing, HRBT or Monitor-Merrimac crossing already figured in, with nothing tacked on once the truck reaches your driveway.

Or call (888) 278-9005

Dale looks over every submission by hand before a number goes back out. Asking doesn't commit you to anything — sit on the figure for a day or a month, whatever works. Expect a flat rate built from your actual ZIP codes, not a placeholder guess, usually in your inbox before the afternoon's out. Your details stay with this desk; nobody outside our Virginia Beach office ever sees them.

Questions we hear before almost every booking

A handful of topics come up on nearly every call: whether we’re actually registered and insured, how a written figure differs from a phone guess, what a tunnel crossing or a PCS timeline does to the plan, how a beach-lane property gets handled, and what happens to your belongings if a closing date slips.

If something below doesn’t cover your situation, call before booking, better to ask now than to find out about a tunnel crossing on the day of.

Does someone else ever end up handling part of my move?
No. JBR Moving Team owns every truck on the job and employs every person riding in it, nobody gets subcontracted out mid-move. Because the same name signs your estimate and your invoice, there's no load board involved and no handoff to a different outfit. The person who quoted your job rides on the truck that shows up.
Can you prove you're licensed and insured?
We can. JBR Moving Team is Virginia-registered, carries full cargo coverage on every load we run, and stays current on both. A certificate of insurance is available on request, base housing offices and property managers ask for one regularly, and we hand it over without hassle. Coverage doesn't change whether the job is a studio apartment or a run to Baltimore.
Do you charge hourly or a flat rate?
Both, in a sense. We quote hourly, but the figure gets locked in as one flat number per truck and crew before a single box gets loaded, it isn't a meter that keeps running once traffic or a long carry eats into the clock. A phone quote that sounds cheap tends to grow once a tunnel backup shows up; ours doesn't, because that's already priced in. If the job runs long, that's on us, not you.
Do you work with military families on PCS orders?
Regularly, it's a large share of what we do. Tyrell puts the report date on the schedule during the first call, whether it's tied to NAS Oceana, Little Creek, or a base housing move-in window written into your orders. None of that becomes a last-minute scramble once the truck is loaded.
My closing date keeps moving. Can you store my things until it settles?
Yes, it comes up constantly, especially during hurricane season when closings and moving dates both get pushed around. Faith arranges a local storage unit billed by the month, sized to what you actually have, and the first month often runs about half price. Once you've got keys in hand, the same crew finishes the job.
What does valuation coverage actually mean?
Two options apply. Released-value protection comes included at no extra cost and pays sixty cents per pound per item, workable for sturdy furniture, thin for anything valuable. Full-value protection costs one to three percent of your declared value and comes backed by up to a million dollars in cargo coverage. Tell us roughly what's going on the truck and we'll point you toward the right one.
What about Sandbridge or Croatan, do you know those beach lanes?
We do, and Cody's crew handles most of those jobs. Beach cottages down narrow sandy lanes with HOA truck-hour rules need a plan before move day, not improvising once a truck is already stuck. That scouting happens ahead of time and never turns into an extra line item.
When is payment due?
Once the last item is inside and where it belongs. We take cash, check, or card. The number was set in writing before Kayla ever dispatched a truck, so there's no surprise math once the job wraps up, you pay what you agreed to at booking.
What if I need to cancel or push back my date?
A quick call or text works the moment you know. Between closing delays and nor'easters shuffling the calendar, we've built pushed-back dates into how we schedule from the start. As long as you give another family a fair shot at the slot, moving your date costs nothing.
Are the trucks and crew on moving day actually yours, or subcontracted?
Ours, fully. Every truck carries JBR Moving Team's name, and every crew member is someone we hired and trained, never day labor pulled together that morning. Your job doesn't quietly change hands to another company, and the person who quoted it is part of the crew at your door.

Why Virginia Beach families call us for a PCS move against an Oceana or Little Creek report date, a Sandbridge cottage with tight HOA rules, or a cross-town move that has to beat bridge-tunnel traffic

The Short List We Hold Ourselves To

Not marketing copy — just what Dale and the crew commit to on every Hampton Roads job, whether the address is a Sandbridge cottage or a brick rancher in Kempsville.

One Number, Start to Finish

Whatever Dale or Kayla quotes on the phone is what prints on the invoice once the truck rolls up, bridge-tunnel toll and a flight of stairs at the new place already priced in.

Virginia-Registered, Fully Insured

Current Virginia household-goods registration stays on file, cargo coverage rides with every load, and any base housing office or property manager gets proof of it the same day they ask.

Payroll Crew, Not Day Labor

Everyone lifting a box for you draws a paycheck from JBR Moving Team directly — never a name pulled off a board that morning.

What You Sign Is What You Owe

Whatever slows a job down — bridge traffic, a hurricane-season reschedule, a tight turn near Croatan — stays off the invoice. Book the number Dale quotes, and that's exactly what's due once the truck is unloaded.

Same Crew, Start to Finish

Nobody hands your things off to another company partway through the job. The crew loading the truck at your old address is the same crew carrying it into the new one.

We Call Before You Have To Ask

Arrival windows are built with room to spare. If the job ahead of yours runs long, Sean's dispatch desk calls before your window closes, and we make the delay worth your while.
